The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
