The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
