The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
